Angélica Liddell

Playwright, writer, stage director and actress

One of the most provocative, visionary and internationally acclaimed performing arts creators working today, Angélica Liddell has shaped one of the most singular artistic universes in contemporary theatre, situated between theatre, poetry and performance. Co-founder of the company Atra Bilis Teatro with Gumersindo Puche, her writing explores cruelty, violence, desire, death and sacrifice through an ethical and spiritual perspective. Her creations, often conceived as stage experiences of great physical and emotional intensity, have been presented at international festivals and theatres such as the Avignon Festival, the Théâtre de l’Odéon in Paris, the Vienna Festival, Temporada Alta, Teatre Lliure, the TNC and the Schaubühne in Berlin. Her works include La casa de la fuerza, winner of the National Prize for Dramatic Literature (2012), ¿Qué haré yo con esta espada?Una costilla sobre la mesa and Seppuku. El funeral de Mishima o el placer de morir. She has received, among other distinctions, the Silver Lion at the Venice Theatre Biennale and the National Theatre Prize.
